Tbilisi & Mtskheta - The Heart and Soul of Georgia

Today, we begin our journey into one of the most vibrant and captivating cities of the Caucasus - Tbilisi, the sunlit capital of Georgia, where ancient history and modern life come together in perfect harmony.

Our day begins with a visit to the magnificent Holy Trinity Cathedral - Tsminda Sameba, one of the most important symbols of modern Georgia. Its golden dome rises above the city and can be seen from afar, while the bright and spacious interior creates an atmosphere of peace, openness, and spiritual serenity.

Next, we enter a world of imagination and art at the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, famous for its charming leaning clock tower. Every hour, a bronze angel appears and rings the bell, turning an ordinary city walk into a little fairytale.

Just nearby stands Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi, dating back to the 6th century. Its ancient stone walls and simple architecture preserve the atmosphere of the earliest centuries of Christianity in Georgia.

Our walk continues across the famous Bridge of Peace, a striking modern glass structure connecting the historic and contemporary parts of the city. From the bridge, enjoy beautiful views of the Mtkvari River, surrounding mountains, and colorful houses of Old Tbilisi. It is also one of the city’s most photogenic locations.

We then make our way to the heart of the Old Town - Shardeni Street, a lively and charming area filled with cozy cafés, traditional wine cellars, art galleries, and restaurants. Wandering through its atmospheric streets, you will already know where you would like to return in the evening for a glass of Georgian wine.

Nearby lie the famous sulfur baths of Abanotubani, the legendary birthplace of Tbilisi. Their distinctive domed roofs, rising steam, and unique sulfur aroma create an atmosphere found nowhere else. These historic baths once fascinated travelers from around the world, including the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.

Just a short walk away, a hidden gem awaits - the Leghvtakhevi (Fig) Waterfall. Surrounded by the historic stone walls of the Old Town, this unexpected cascade creates a peaceful oasis right in the heart of the bustling capital.

Mtskheta - The Spiritual Heart of Georgia

Today, we also discover Georgia’s deep spiritual heritage as we leave Tbilisi and travel to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and one of the country’s most important religious centers.

Our journey begins at Jvari Monastery, a magnificent 7th-century monastery dramatically situated on a hill above the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers.

From here, one of Georgia’s most iconic landscapes unfolds before you. The two rivers meet below, flowing together like two sisters and creating a breathtaking natural panorama. On a clear day, the distant peaks of the Caucasus can be seen on the horizon, with majestic Mount Kazbek standing like a silent guardian of the land.

We then descend into ancient Mtskheta. Its narrow streets, traditional shops filled with Georgian sweets, honey, wine, and local crafts create the feeling of stepping into another era. Life here seems to move at a slower pace, allowing you to truly experience the atmosphere of old Georgia.

The crown jewel of Mtskheta is Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, meaning “the Life-Giving Pillar.” One of Georgia’s most sacred and historically significant churches, it is surrounded by centuries of legends and religious traditions. According to Georgian Christian tradition, the cathedral is home to the Robe of Christ.
