Mtskheta – The Ancient Capital of Georgia- Group Tour

Programm:

Tour starts daily at 10:00 AM

Join us on a half-day tour to explore Mtskheta, the first ancient capital of Georgia, rich in history and spiritual significance. The city is over 2,000 years old and is home to some of the country’s most important religious landmarks, all of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Jvari Monastery
Perched on a hilltop with breathtaking views, the Jvari Monastery (meaning "Cross" in Georgian) is a 6th-century architectural gem. According to legend, Saint Nino erected a wooden cross here after converting the Kingdom of Iberia to Christianity. The site was later praised in Lermontov’s poem “Mtsyri” for its spiritual atmosphere and scenic beauty.

Svetitskhoveli Cathedral
One of the most sacred places in Georgia, Svetitskhoveli ("Life-Giving Pillar") is the country's main Orthodox cathedral and an important pilgrimage site. Built between 1010–1029, it is believed to be the burial site of Christ’s robe, and many Georgian kings are also buried here.

Samtavro Monastery
This important religious site includes the main church, the Church of Saint Nino, a bell tower, and ancient fortress walls. Saint Nino lived here, and King Mirian and Queen Nana, the first Christian monarchs of Georgia, are buried in the monastery. Though the main structures date back to the 11th century, the site's history goes back to the 4th century.

Wine Cellar Visit & Free Tasting
