Tbilisi City Tour with Ancient Mtskheta & Jvari Monastery

Tbilisi City Tour with Ancient Mtskheta & Jvari Monastery

Programm:

Today we begin our journey into the most sacred and the most vibrant — the sunlit capital of Georgia, Tbilisi.

We start with the majestic Holy Trinity Cathedral (Tsminda Sameba), a symbol of modern Georgia. Its golden dome can be seen from afar, while inside everything is filled with light and a sense of openness.

Next, we visit a true wonder of architecture and imagination — the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, with its leaning clock tower and the bronze angel ringing the bell every hour. It is a place where fairy tales come to life.

Nearby stands Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in Tbilisi. Built in the 5th century, it preserves the spirit of the earliest days of Christianity.

We continue our walk across the Bridge of Peace — a modern glass structure that gracefully connects the old and new parts of the city. It is one of the most photogenic spots in Tbilisi, set against mountains, the river, and colorful houses.

Then we reach the heart of the Old Town — Shardeni Street, lively and full of charm, with wine cellars, cozy cafés, and art galleries. Walking through it, you will already know where to return in the evening for a glass of Georgian wine.

Nearby are the famous sulfur baths of Abanotubani, the very place where the history of Tbilisi began. As Alexander Pushkin once wrote, “I have never seen anything more luxurious than the Tiflis baths.” Domes of ancient bathhouses, rising steam, the scent of sulfur — and suddenly, just behind them, the Leghvtakhevi (Fig) Waterfall appears, a true hidden gem in the heart of the city.

Today we also discover the spiritual soul of Georgia.

In the morning, we travel to Jvari Monastery, a 7th-century храм standing high on a hill. From here, as Mikhail Lermontov wrote, “the Aragvi and Kura rivers flow together like two sisters.” Standing above the confluence, you witness two rivers, two colors, united forever. On a clear day, Mount Kazbek can be seen in the distance, like a silent guardian of the land.

We then descend to ancient Mtskheta, the first capital and spiritual heart of Georgia. With its narrow streets, small shops filled with sweets, honey, and wine, it feels as if time moves more slowly here.

The main treasure of the town is Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, known as the “Life-Giving Pillar.” According to legend, the Robe of Christ is buried here. Inside, there is a soft dim light, flickering candles, 11th-century frescoes, and a deep sense of peace — as if the air itself is filled with prayer. It is said that every wish made here comes true.
